The School of Economics and Management (SEM) is a young and energetic institution. In 2000, it was created by merging three other colleges. In September 2006, it changed its name into SEM. In 2021, two national first-class undergraduate construction majors of Information Management and Information System and Marketing were approved, with SEM embarking its track on talent cultivation. In November 2021, the construction unit of Doctoral Degree Program in Management Science and Engineering was approved, enabling SEM to pursue high-quality development. In February 2022, SEM officially passed the Accreditation Application of AACSB, starting to deepen its internationalization policy. The school has continuously made further improvement, taking new steps on new journey of high-quality development.

SEM adheres to President Xi’s thoughts of socialism with Chinese characteristics, educate talents for the Party and for the nation, fully implementing the fundamental task of strengthening moral education and cultivating people.

The school currently has over 2000 full-time undergraduate students, over 200 graduate students, and more than 100 staff, with 35 senior professional titles and around 50% full-time faculty members. Through the continuous improvement of talent introduction, training, and guarantee mechanisms, we have formed a faculty team with moderate scale, excellent structure, and distinctive characteristics.

The school currently has 6 undergraduate programs in marketing, information management and information system, international economics and commerce, accounting, exhibition economics and management, big data management and application, and 1 Sino-Canadian undergraduate program in marketing. We have a Master's degree program in Management Science and Engineering and a Master's degree program in Engineering Management.

The school implements a talent cultivation model of industry-teaching integration and university-enterprise cooperation, regarded cultivation of applied and innovative students as an important goal, focusing on improving their comprehensive quality and practical capabilities.

Students have achieved excellent results in various professional skills competitions. Since 2015, they have won more than 40 national awards and 60 awards in Shanghai. The employment rate has always remained above 95%. And enterprises gave students good evaluation for strong adaptability and high loyalty.

SEM currently has multiple disciplinary construction platforms, including the "Management Science and Engineering Research Center", "Consumer Behavior Research Center", “Cosmetics Brand Strategy Research Center”, “Big Data Management and Application Research Center,” “Shanghai Entrepreneurship College”, and Sino-Europe Intellectual Property College. We have actively conducted theoretical research and practice through these platforms.

In the past 5 years, SEM has undertaken over 20 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation of China, over 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and more than 50 university-industry cooperative projects. The average annual revenue for scientific research is over 4 million RMB. Over 210 academic papers were published in influential academic journals, such as Journal of Business Research, Journal of Management Science, Systematic Engineering Theories and Practice, Management Review, and Chinese Management Science. We actively serve the construction of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center and regional economic development, and provide technical development, consulting, and other services for government and various enterprises. The development of disciplines and platform construction highlights the distinctive characteristics of application and internationalization.

The college actively serves the society and established the Sino-Europe Intellectual Property College in January 2020 and filled the gap of intellectual property management education in Shanghai. Its influence on talent cultivation and social service has become increasingly influential after years of construction. At the "Oriental Beauty Valley" International Cosmetics Conferences, the R&D team of Sino-Europe Intellectual Property College released the world's first Cosmetics Patent Innovation Index (CIPII), promoting high-quality development of China's cosmetics industry. The first batch of training programs for IP CEOs of SMEs undertaken by Sino-Europe Intellectual Property College, demonstrating the strength and effectiveness of SEM on IP talents cultivation.

SEM actively implements internationalization policies. In 2013, cooperative undergraduate program with Thomson University, Canada passed the evaluation by the Ministry of Education in China. Till now, we have conducted in-depth cooperation with more than 20 universities in Canada, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, the U.K, the U.S, New Zealand and other countries, and have consistently ranked No. 1 on the number of exchange students sending abroad in SIT. International Economics and Commerce is listed as one of the demonstrative all-English Planning and Construction majors in Shanghai by Municipal Education Commission, and Organizational Behavior is listed as a demonstrative all-English key construction course in Shanghai. Since 2018, more than 100 Dutch teachers and students from Fontys University of Applied Science and Technology have come to our school to study Chinese Economics. Since 2019, China-Netherlands Economic Development Forum has been held and the quality of international education has been improving year by year.
