The computer science and information engineering department was established on September 2000 by the integration of computer science faculties in Shanghai Light Industry College, Shanghai College of Metallurgy and Shanghai Chemical Engineering College. On November 2009, the department of computer science and information engineering was renamed as the school of computer science and information engineering (abbreviated as the school of computer science).

There are three undergraduate majors in the School of Computer Science, namely: Computer Science and Technology (Science), Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Among them, software engineering is a national first-class major, a pilot major of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program, and a pilot major of Shanghai Applied Undergraduate Program; The Computer Science and Technology major is a first-class undergraduate major in Shanghai. The artificial intelligence major has a research and practice project of "new engineering" in Shanghai. The training of master's students is mainly recruited in the master's program of electronic information and control science and engineering. At present, there are more than 1,528 undergraduates and more than 251 master's students.

The number of current staffs is 91, including 6 professors and 51 doctors. The school has also employed a large number of part-time lecturers from well-known universities, who are full of practical engineering experiences. Cultivating talents in applied engineering has always been the principle of school running and discipline construction. Via multiple methods such as cooperation, cultivation and recruitment, the quality of lecturers has been continuously improving.

Discipline construction is the main line throughout the development of the college, the college continues to strengthen the discipline construction, especially the key discipline construction of the college as the central work of discipline construction, firmly establish the discipline construction as the leader, the construction of the faculty as the core of the idea, and pay attention to the construction of the discipline research platform, has formed 1 discipline platform, 3 discipline research and development centers, x scientific research teams, 1characteristic base. One discipline platform is the intelligent detection and intelligent computing discipline platform; The three R&D centers are artificial intelligence and big data, computer vision and image processing, and intelligent perception and recognition; X scientific research teams include radar-based detection and recognition team, vision-based obstacle detection and recognition team, OBU/RSU-based environmental detection and recognition team, decision-making and planning control algorithm optimization team, underground parking lot automatic parking research team, autonomous driving cloud platform research and development team, embedded system development team, cloud platform system development team, etc.; One of the featured bases is the autonomous driving V2X base. The School has made leapfrog development and outstanding achievements in scientific research, teaching, talents, and teams.

At present, our institute has a first-class teaching environment and experimental equipment in China. Now it has a V2X-based innovation base; It has more than 10 laboratories such as artificial intelligence, V2X technology, big data technology laboratory, information security laboratory, software testing laboratory, cloud platform development, embedded development, etc. In 2019, the School of Information and Intelligent Technology Industry was established to create ideal internship and practice conditions for students and meet the requirements of students' engineering training. The college vigorously strengthens school-enterprise cooperation, strengthens the cultivation of students' professional practical ability, actively explores the school-enterprise cooperation model of outstanding engineers, and strives to build a new system of "one main line, two supports, and four platforms" for the cultivation of applied talents.

Via a deep research in the possibilities of international cooperation with overseas universities, two appropriate international cooperation modes has been established, which are “3+1” and “2+2”. In order to push forward the new mode, many works have been accomplished in establishing internationalized syllabus and curriculum and credit recognition systems with overseas universities. The cooperation brings opportunities in importing advanced concepts in engineering education, which significantly expanded the international views for both lecturers and students. The school has developed a domestic degree plus overseas degree and a domestic degree plus international certificates international cooperation mode, which allows our students to study abroad so as to enhance their international view, foreign language ability and competitiveness.

Graduates from our school can always meet the requirements from employers. Therefore, the employment rate of our graduates has been remained over 90%. The position of graduates mostly distributed in information department of both domestic and international enterprises dealing with research, development, technic support and management. Some of our graduates have become senior engineers, technical experts in enterprises and responsible officer in government information department.
