School of Perfume and Aroma Technology, the former Department of Biology and Food Technology of Shanghai Institute of Technology, was founded in January 2001. Now, it is also included the International School of Cosmetics of Shanghai Institute of Technology, Institute of Shanghai Oriental Beauty Valley and Collaborative Innovation Center of Fragrance Flavour and Cosmetics.

The school is the earliest established education pilot with the target of system training the technical talents of flavor and fragrance in domestic. It consists of four departments, namely, Perfume and Aroma Technology and Engineering, Cosmetic Technology and Engineering, Food Science and Technology, and Bioengineering. At present, there are 104 teachers including 16 professors, 24 associate professors. Moreover, 74 of them have Doctor’s Degree. In the school, There are Chief Scientist of National Major Special Projects, National Level "New Century Hundred and Ten Million Talents Project Candidate", Shanghai "Leading Talents", "Dawn" Morning Scholars ", " Rising Star Scholars ", " Young Top Talents ", and " Pujiang Scholars "; There are also outstanding teachers with the honors of National Excellent Teacher, model teachers of Shanghai, recipients of Shanghai May Day Labor Certificates and Medals, Shanghai March 8th Red Flag Bearer, and recipients of Shanghai Youth May Fourth Certificates and Medals, and so on.

In recent years, the school has won scientific research awards, including one second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, several first, second and third prizes of provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards, and national or provincial level technology invention awards. The school has more than 20 national level scientific projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the “973” Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It also has led and completed over 50 scientific projects at the provincial, ministerial and enterprise levels. The school has obtained nearly 100 million Yuan in research project fundings, applied for or authorized more than 200 national invention patents, published more than 500 academic papers, implemented more than 50 industrial promotion achievements, and achieved direct economic benefits of over 10 billion Yuan. The school also participated in the cultivation or incubation of 8 high-tech enterprises, and promoted the listing of 3 companies.

Up to now, the school has established excellent co-operative relations and united laboratories with many famous university, enterprises and research institutions in France, the United States, England, Germany, Japanese, Israel and new zealand including International Superior Institute of Perfume Cosmetics Aromas (ISIPCA), Rutgers University in the United States and German WILD food ingredients Co., Ltd.
